#Grid Locators
A grid locator is a short code from the Maidenhead system that identifies a rectangular area of the Earth’s surface. It begins with two letters and two digits, and further characters can be added for a more precise position. Some contests use the locator as the exchange, and distance can be calculated from the locators of the two stations. A wrong letter or digit places the station in a different part of the world, so locators must be copied and logged with care. Your own locator should be checked once with a map or calculator and then stored in the logger settings. The articles under this tag explain how locators work in contests and how to avoid typical logging mistakes.
