#Cut Numbers

Cut numbers are shortened Morse characters used instead of digits in CW exchanges, for example N for 9 in the report 5NN, T for 0 and A for 1. They save sending time and are part of normal CW contest practice, although no single official table is followed by everyone. When copying them, an operator should recognise the pattern and then log the real digit, not the letter. Cut numbers never apply to callsigns, where every character is literal, and applying them there is a classic source of busted calls. The articles under this tag explain the common forms, the right way to log them and the mistakes that show up in contest logs.
